JEE (Advanced) 2015 Paper Analysis
Resonance: JEE (Advanced) 2015 Paper Analysis by RKV Sir
If we look at the pattern, last year there were two papers: Paper 1 and Paper 2 each of 180 marks and 60 questions. This time, Paper 1 was of 264 marks and Paper 2 was of 240 marks. There were total 60 questions in each paper which means 20 Questions/per subject/per paper.
Like last year, this year also Paper 1 had more than one correct answers and integer type questions. The only difference from last year is in the distribution of questions and that there was negative marking in Paper 1. There were 10 Multiple Choice Questions with more than one correct answer with negative marking of -2 marks and +4 for correct answer. 8 Questions were single digit integer type with no negative marking while the rest 2 questions were match the column with part marking of each entry (+2 for correct and -1 for wrong).
This year, Paper 2 was also of the same pattern as Paper 1 and equally difficult with just a few changes. Instead of match the column questions of Paper 1, there were 2 multiple choice comprehensive questions that had negative marking of -2 marks and +4 for correct answer.
Students find this pattern to be tough due to more than one correct answer questions with 50% negative marking. Thus, in a nutshell, students may have found both Paper 1 and Paper 2 of similar difficulty level.
Coming to Subject wise analysis, taking in consideration Paper 1 and Paper 2, it had 120 questions. We have categorized 40 questions each as moderate, tough, and easy. Maths to be toughest among all, than Chemistry than Physics.
The Cut-off for qualifying is as follows (as defined by JAB):
General - 176 OBC - 158 SC/ST/PD - 88
But there is no limit for the intake of the students and whosoever scores the above marks would qualify. However there is an exception in case of SC/ST/PD i.e. if there are less number of students whose marks are not as per the defined cut-off level, the cut off will be decreased so that the reserved seats can be filled.
The weightage of the topics from Class XIth and Class XIIth in both Papers combined are mentioned below:
I wish all the best to the students !
